Journey of Time2Chess
Time2Chess began with the conviction that chess molds young minds into strong thinkers and problem solvers. Mr Karthik Raj C founded the academy in 2019, after leaving his corporate job at the tender age of twenty-three years. He wished to build a place where students would learn through clear methods, steadfast practice, and guided mentorship.
The Academy has evolved into one of South India's largest chess institutions and now trains upwards of Thousand students across 14 countries and operates 8 learning centers in Chennai. A team of more than 40+ internationally rated and trained coaches provides personal attention to every learner.
Over 5000 students have completed our programs, developing confidence, discipline, focus, and strategic thinking. In the past year alone, more than 300 students won prizes in various district, state, national, and international events. Time2Chess continues to inspire students and guide them towards realizing their complete potential.

Meet Our Founder & CEO- Mr. Karthik Raj
Founder and CEO, Time2Chess | International Chess Player | Rotarian
Karthik Raj is a leader, entrepreneur, and chess professional who believes that a single game can shape a lifetime of thinking. Through chess, he transforms young lives, instilling clarity, confidence, and character one move at a time.
An internationally rated chess player, Karthik is a Commonwealth Games participant, a double National Schools Bronze Medalist, and the All India Below-1600 Rating Title Winner (2013), with over 150 competitive accomplishments to his name. For him, titles were never the destination; they were tools to build something larger, and he believes that chess has the power to transform lives.
That vision came alive in 2019 when he founded Time2Chess, which today stands among South India’s largest chess academies. Under his leadership, Time2Chess has mentored over 10,000 students across 16+ countries, helping children grow not just as stronger chess players but as sharper thinkers and calmer decision-makers in life. What sets Karthik apart is the depth of his contribution to the sport. He holds the prestigious FIDE Instructor title, is a FIDE Certified Trainer, and a National Arbiter. These qualifications have helped him build a strong academic and ethical foundation at Time2Chess. Beyond training students, he actively contributes to chess by organizing professional tournaments and nurturing the ecosystem from grassroots to competitive excellence.
An active BNI member and a proud Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Poes Garden, Karthik uses chess as a powerful medium to teach discipline, leadership, patience, and clear thinking. His leadership style is refreshingly unique, visionary yet approachable, structured yet fun, making people feel inspired, included, and energized around him.
Off the board, Karthik is a fun-loving human, a natural motivator, and a proud dog lover who believes that leadership, like chess, works best with empathy and heart. At his core, Karthik Raj is not just building champions. He is building thinkers, leaders, and better human beings through a game he loves deeply. That is the Time2Chess move.
